Learn Hindi Movie Direction-1
Jogeshwari sadhir sahu
Hindi movies have to be understood first because Hindi movies have their own mood which is completely different from Hollywood.
Although today you will find thousands of chapters on movie direction on the internet, but the direction of Hindi movies that I am talking about today is completely different, they are Hindi films which have become established in the minds of the Indian people. We will talk about that cinema.
Whenever we talk about Hindi cinema, we start with Dadasaheb Phalke who tried for the existence of Hindi cinema. This is a different story which you will find if you search. How Dadasaheb started Hindi cinema and did many experiments. The era of silent cinema began. Then came the era of black and white. There was a time when even the roles of female characters were played by men.
Cinema was becoming popular. At one place, songs were filmed by holding trees. Then only those actors who used to sing themselves would work. Next came the era of playback singing and background music.
In this way, cinema raised the flag of success and also attacked the evils of Indian society.
While a cinema that changed the society was made, a cinema of pure entertainment was also made.
These are the things of history which are related to cinema, but film direction has its own place. Indian directors have made their mark in foreign countries also, among which Satyajit Ray’s name is prominently mentioned.
Satyajit Ray was so addicted to cinema that he felt that he made cinema by selling his wife’s jewelery and created history. Like Ravindra Nath Tagore, Subhash Chandra Bose and Jagdish Chandra Bose, who established the identity of Bengal in the world, the name of Satyajit Ray will remain immortal.
Satyajit Ray created immortal cinema masterpieces like Pather Panchali in Bengali and received many international awards. After that, it became a hit parade of Bengali cinema directors. Many amazing Bengali cinema directors proved their mettle, including great directors like Ritwik Ghatak, Ritu Parano Ghosh, Hrishikesh Mukherjee, Basu Chatterjee, Anil Ganguly, who gave a new direction to Hindi cinema, gave it a classic look and raised the flag of success. . In this sequence, Vimal Rai, Arpana Sen, director of Mrgya and Guru Dutt Sahab also come.
It is becoming difficult for me to write this because whatever I have written could not be saved and my efforts have gone waste.
Let me write again what I just wrote but did not save.
First a dream arises in the heart of a director that he will create a world that will be different from this world and he takes a vow to make a film and thinks what the world created by him will be like? That’s the story he searches for.
If he likes suspense then he takes suspense or if he likes horror then he takes that kind of story. Some directors have their own story which they develop themselves. Apart from a good storyteller, they also hire a good scriptwriter who can bring their feelings to life on screen. Same characters, same dialogues, all this happens in the eyes of the director.
The one who does not understand all this is the God of that film. Sometimes it becomes a hit because of the music and sometimes because of the performance of an actor.
It is the director who handles all this from the beginning as to who will write the script and who will write the dialogues. After this, the task of presenting the screenplay or script in front of a big actor is the biggest risk. If the actor or hero likes the story, then consider that half the battle has been won by the director.
It is only because of the big hero that the film gets discussed in the market, financiers are found and the director himself becomes a producer or even hires a good producer. This is where half the work is done.
Then it starts taking the star cast, who is the music director, who is the heroine, many times all this is decided by the hero of the film, if the director is weak, otherwise if the director is strong, then the hero will do as per the director’s wishes.
Here we can also understand by giving some examples because the job of the director is the biggest, he is the surveyor, he is the captain of the ship.
A good movie takes the director to heaven, but a flop keeps him nowhere.
The film Teesri Kasam was a very good film but its producer Shailendra Saheb suffered so much loss that he had to lie on his death bed while his close friend Raj Kapoor worked in it but at that time the film was not a hit in the cinema halls and did not have that much crowd. Had it been able to pull through, producer Shailendra had directly suffered a loss because at the time of the release of the film, he had not received good money so that he could pay off the loan of the production. Thus, he was drowned in debt and so many big friends also helped him in this financial crisis. Couldn’t get it out.
However, later the films were also made tax free and were shown in exhibitions by the Social Welfare Department of the Government of India.
Raj Kapoor Sahab is the best example of a director, he became a director at the age of just 22. His father Prithviraj Kapoor was a famous film and theater actor. Nevertheless, Raj Kapoor had the qualities of a born director, so he formed his own team, opened his own banner and production house RK Studio. His team included renowned emerging lyricists and composers. He had a good understanding of music, so he always kept good lyricists and musicians with him. He used to work with everyone easily and happily. The heroine had a very important role in his films which no one could ignore.
If someone wants to learn direction, then first he has to choose his ideal and there is no dearth of iconic directors in our industry. If someone wants to work like Raj Kapoor, then one has to understand his working style.
Not only Raj Kapoor, there have been very successful directors like Kamal Amrohi and K. Asif who also used to produce themselves. Tarachand Barjatya had even opened his own distributor company for his special type of Hindi films because the kind of social and literary cultural films he made were not picked up by the distributors of that time. Then Tarachand Barjatya opened his own distribution company. Opened and they were very successful.
He created a parallel cinema of simple small budget Hindi films and it was successful. Parallel cinema was strongly run by dedicated directors who knew and understood their work well and who had some humanitarian and social message along with entertainment.
Raj Kapoor and Manoj Kumar were skilled directors and actors of the film industry. Both of them made purposeful films with good messages by taking themselves as heroes under their own banners and productions and were the biggest show men of their time and also business men and their banners gave their best roles to many heroines and also gave them awards.
Another big director was Yash Chopra and his brother BR Chopra, both of them established their empire in the film world. Today Yash Films is the biggest banner of the Hindi film industry.
Once upon a time, when Yash Chopra had started production besides directing his movies, Rakhi Gulzar had probably given him Rs 40,000/- for the movie Daag. Rakhi was also the heroine of his hit movie Kabhi Kabhi.
Similarly, at that time, anyone who could sign Rajesh Khanna was considered successful, but J Om Prakash’s movie Aapki Kasam was not that much of a hit, then Mehbooba was also a minor hit, then films like Chaila Babu and Ajnabee were also a big task for the director. It was Rajesh’s declining phase when his own director Yash Chopra could not repeat Rajesh after Daag movie neither in Kabhi Kabhi nor in Trishul because at that time Amitabh’s era had started.
Well.. it is a matter of learning from the film directors that how the directors used to change their heroes for success.
Look at the hits of the director you want to become, study them, keep a sharp eye on his working style, then you too will be able to reach that point.
You have to see that you are telling your own story along with the director, that is, you are a director as well as a script writer, so follow such writers who are both writers and directors.
If you know a director who is also a producer himself, you will find many successful directors who are also producers like Mehboob Khan, Yash Chopra, Aditya Chopra, Karan Johar and Gulzar etc. In today’s times, you cannot forget Meghna Gulzar and Muzaffar Ali’s son Shaad Ali and his brother Rohit Shetty.
Such directors who have also been acting themselves like Raj Kapoor, Manoj Kumar, Firoz Khan, but in today’s era, when Sunny Deol flops by making Dillagi, then today’s actors take their favorite hit director.
You were once a good actor and today if you want to become a director then you will have to convince a good hero like Amol Palekar did to Shahrukh and made a film like Paheli but he did not get the expected success. Because so many poor directors passed away trying to solve the mathematics of success.
Vijay Anand had once made a hit with the guide film Dev Anand, later Raj Khosla had given an excellent and successful film with him like Main Tulsi Tere Aangan Ki.
This will be a very long discussion, for now I am summing it up here, soon I will present to you the necessary patterns and drafts of film direction after decorating it well with more material and along with it, entertaining discussions about the film industry will also continue because without storytelling. No draft is interesting.
So wait, soon its next part which will be full of very useful and important information will come before you.
Thank you! Since I am on an important journey, it will take some time but I will definitely come to get the support of all of you who makes life life.
